#IWD in the Lakes and Dales: This year I #ChooseToChallenge expectations of young people in creative careers. I once had an older man tell me (after I said that I’d like to go into festivals and outdoor event management) there was no point doing my degree (event management) as it was pointless and there was no money in it.
Since then I’ve wanted to prove that there is money in the arts – in particular arts in rural areas, it is a viable career option, (even for a young 24 year old woman) and that even though I would like to earn money from doing something I love, I also do it out of passion of the industry!
That’s why with the work we do with Fresh Perspective, we always aim to pay creatives for their time, no matter how far along in their career they are.
