Orla Collier
Orla grew up in the Lake District and began her dance training on the Centre for Advanced Training programme at The Lowry, Salford. At CAT, she worked with choreographers such as Odette Hughes from Company Wayne McGregor and Jean Abreu. She also began training on the Royal Ballet Associate scheme from the ages of 8-16.
Orla came to GPLD through our micro-commissions with an idea to create a 20-minute solo dance piece ‘Endormore’ reflecting on her experience growing up in a rural village in Cumbria and the highs and lows that brings. While Orla’s background is in contemporary dance, Endormore mixes in elements of physical theatre with the ‘emotion being the driving force for the piece’.
Orla’s emotive piece was performed live at the young person’s takeover on 20th July at Brewery Arts with the filmed piece being shown on a loop throughout the exhibition. Stemming from this piece of work Orla has performed Endormore for hundreds of people and began running workshops with Brewery Arts Youth Dance groups, working closely with Brewery Arts and utilising their rehearsal spaces to develop her practice.
We look forward to seeing new work from Orla in the future and love seeing the impact Endormore has had both on Orla and other people.
